Tanzanite Sourcing and Wholesale Supply
Tanzanite comes from a single source on earth. Shaw Minerals selects it at the mouth of the mine with its own GIA gemologists and supplies graded material to the trade.
A single-source gemstone
Tanzanite is trichroic: the same stone shows violet, blue and burgundy depending on how it is oriented, which is why cutting decisions made at the source determine the colour a buyer eventually sees. Because the gemstone has one producing source, parcels vary and selection is the whole job.
Shaw Minerals has been a mining company since 1987. Our gemologists see tanzanite rough before it is split and resold, which is what allows us to hold consistent colour across a larger trade order.

Deep violet-blue trichroic stone from a single source on earth. Selected for saturation and even colour across a parcel, then graded for clarity and life before release.
Fancy Tanzanite
Unheated pastel and bi-colour material in collector grades, kept aside during selection rather than blended into commercial parcels.
